Arts & Crafts In Gatlinburg, 2013
Each year after our visit to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, I enjoy highlighting a few of the artists and handcrafters we discover in the local Arts & Crafts Community. This year we spent some time in the Morning Mist Village at 601 Glades Road, which has more than 25 arts and crafts shops. It is also home to the Morning Mist Cafe, which serves one of the best hamburgers we’ve ever eaten!
If you sew or quilt, you will love Susan Dudley’s quilt shop, Mountain Stitches by Susan. Fabrics by the yard, fat quarter and jelly roll fabric sets, notions, patterns, and more are available. She has it arranged beautifully and all of the lovely fabrics were very tempting, especially the sets. I wanted to return home and immediately get out my sewing machine! Susan also offers “Sit & Sew Day Retreats” in two large, attractive rooms directly across from her shop. For more information about the retreats or the shop, please visit the Mountain Stitches by Susan web site.
Next door to the quilt shop is the Tahiti Beads shop – be sure to drop in if you make jewelry or are a crafter! I also spent some time in Beech Branch Crafts, which carries local and regional pottery, paintings, and more. We enjoyed browsing many other locally-owned shops and resting in the shade. There are even a couple of nice photo-op areas with a little brook and trees in the background, if you can get your kids to stand still!
