Tiny Felt Animal
I liked everything about this Kangaroo felt animal kit from the little 4″ x 4″ box it came in all the way through to the little completed Kangaroo! Felt seems to be my thing lately (visit this post or this post to see what I mean) and this kit didn’t disappoint. I had forgotten how relaxing it is to sit down and sew by hand (years ago cross-stitch was my main craft and I loved it).
This project took me about two and a half hours, including a few interruptions and picture-taking along the way. I also cut out pieces for two more kangaroos to be sewn by my nieces. (Hint, if you lay the patterns out just right, one 9″ x 12″ piece of craft felt is enough for two kangaroos). I’m carefully saving the pattern pieces for future additions to our Kangaroo family!
This eco-friendly kit comes with everything you need to make the animal, except for scissors and straight pins. The instructions are quite clear, and state that the kit is intended for children 8 and older. I believe that an 8 year old would have a lot of fun making this, as long as he or she likes to sew or craft. An adult may have to help some kids with the ears, but otherwise the sewing wasn’t difficult at all, and as I stated above, rather relaxing!
The pattern pieces are laid out on the paper pattern sheet in three squares. If you cut out the squares, they fit perfectly on the pre-cut felt pieces. I cut out the felt pieces through the paper patterns the first time (see picture above). The instructions suggest basting the smaller pattern pieces to the felt before cutting them out, but I found that holding the layers firmly between my thumb and forefinger while cutting was sufficient.

Today, I went to the beach with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it
to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put
the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and
it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is totally off topic but I had to tell someone!
