Recent internet marketing developments mean several things for jewelry designers. The first is that there is an overwhelming number of jewelry available for online sale. Numbers are truly mind boggling and I don’t think they can even be approximated.

The second is that even beginner jewelry designers can get their work noticed and start successful careers. I think for young jewelers today, the business is easier and more difficult at the same time. Again, almost anybody can open a private workshop from home and open his own web page or online store, this is the part that makes things much easier.

On the other hand, as mentioned above, there are virtually hundreds of thousands of jewelry pieces out there for sale and hundreds, if not thousands of jewelry websites.

So how do you get your jewelry designs noticed? While there is no simple solution, there are a few simple steps that you can take as a beginner and that will probably help you to reach the elusive goal of getting noticed and making a living from jewelry design.

Using Established Web Services to Sell your Designs

While it’s tempting to open your own website and try to promote your designs through it, actual success for a beginner without deep pockets to afford advertising are close to zero. It’s one thing to open a website; it’s an entirely different thing to have it appear in search results.

For beginners, it’s probably much better to open an online shop by using an established service such as eBay. Such websites will allow you to accumulate user ratings and appear in search results. Do whatever it takes to get one hundred percent positive user ratings. Understand that accumulating a couple of hundreds of positive ratings is worth its weight in gold, even if it means losing some money on a particular transaction along the way, just to keep the customer happy.

Keeping it Real and Simple

Keep your initial designs simple, usable and affordable. Remember, you want to establish an online reputation by selling a few hundred pieces and getting a great positive review from each and every customer. In order to do that, you need to keep your feet on the ground and design simple, beautiful and elegant pieces that will sell.

Last, but not least, before you actually create your online store take some time to browse through other successful web stores and jewelry websites and check what is popular and trending. By analyzing other websites’ success, you may find it easier to develop your own successful jewelry line.
