Guest author Paisley Hansen shares a few fun crafting ideas to help organize your home.

Have you looked around your house lately and wondered just how it got looking that way? Do you wonder if a silent tornado made a secret appearance in your home and have no idea how to get it looking better? Getting (and keeping) an organized, orderly house can be a daunting task and sometimes you just have to wonder if it’s easier to just let things stay on the floor, stuck in corners, and shoved against the walls than to try to organize.

You’re not alone. We all go through it. But knowing that doesn’t necessarily make your job easier, does it? Well, hopefully these ideas will help a little. Here are a few crafts that are simple and inexpensive that can really help you get a bit more organized. Give them a try and see what you think!

Egg Carton Sewing Kit

If you like to sew, you know it can get a bit messy. You have threads of every color, scissors, pins, and much more. Why not organize them in an egg carton? You can find a cute, vintage-type one at local farm stands or just use one from the store. Hot glue fabric to the inside. Then use fabric or elastic to create little pockets or straps to hold your scissors and other items. You can easily cross-stitch these pieces on. And you can cover the outside if you want it to match your room and look professional. No-one will know it’s really an egg carton and all your sewing stuff will be in one place.

Jars Underneath Shelf

Don’t you hate all those little items that have nowhere to “live”? As a result, they get shoved in some junk drawer that will never be sorted through again. Here’s a better idea. Get a few shelves, some jelly jars, small nails, and a hammer. All you need to do is flip the shelf over and nail the lids to it (two small nails each should do.) Flip your shelf back over. Then attach your shelf to the wall and screw the jelly jars into place. It’s a great way to easily get to your little items such as buttons, craft supplies, safety pins, and anything else you want.

Shoebox Cord Keeper

Do you get sick and tired of having a thousand phone and computer chargers strung around your house? If so, grab a shoebox and some decorate craft paper that will match the room you intend to put it in. Start by covering your box with the paper (and a hot glue gun). Cut small holes down one side of the box (probably one of the long sides) with an X-Acto knife. Then do the other side (make sure the sides align, as you will be stringing one wire through both sets of holes.) Then buy an extra large eyelet kit from the store and attach them to the holes to keep them from tearing with time and wear. Now all you have left to do is put the wires through the holes, set them on an end table, plug in the wires, and voila! No more tripping over cords!

Food Can Organizer From Pop Container

If you’re a hesitant crafter, this is the organizational project for you. Purchase a 12-pack of soda and keep the container. You can also cover this container with craft paper if you’d like it to look nice and match your kitchen. Then cut a hole in the top towards the back. This is where you’ll “deposit” your new cans. Then detach the original flap that allowed you to open the can container at the front. This is where you’ll pick up your cans as you need them. It’s an incredibly easy way to keep a rotating food supply.

Hopefully these fun craft ideas will help you get just a little more organized!
