Online Art & Crafts Instruction
By now you may have heard of Craftsy, the site that offers online classes, downloadable projects and patterns, and endless inspiration! I recently became an affiliate, and have been enjoying browsing through their various products. I ordered one of Craftsy’s free online classes – the Quilt Block of the Month, and started watching it tonight. The video is very professional and the instructor Amy Gibson has already convinced me that I can do it!
I’m having a hard time choosing which online class to try next, but I think I have settled on Shoot It! A Product Photography Primer, since these days I have been focusing my creative energies on photography. They offer several other free classes, as well as free patterns and projects alongside the ones that are for sale. There are a variety of crafts available: Cake Decorating, Crocheting, Jewelry, Knitting, Paper Crafts, Quilting, Sewing, and more.
Craftsy allows students to rate each class, ask questions of the instructors, and post pictures of their own completed projects. It’s nice to review these ahead of time if it is really something you will be interested in pursuing. I think it’s wonderful that they allow students to post their own images; it creates more of a community feeling rather than just a shopping experience. (Although, I really don’t mind the shopping…)
Craftsy Classes normally cost $9.99 – $49.99. (The patterns, projects and workshops range in price from $0 and up.) This is a great opportunity to have a “private” lesson with an experienced instructor. Also, Craftsy will refund 100% of your fees if you are not happy with your purchase.
As I take more classes and try some of the patterns, I’ll be sharing my experiences and hopefully some nice FINISHED projects!
If you are interested in other online art and craft related resources, I welcome you to visit Cotton Ridge Books – the place where I gather all of the interesting books and resources found while managing my business, Cotton Ridge Designs, LLC.
