Creative Kids: Make Your Own Auntie Anne’s Pretzels Product Review

Make Your Own Auntie Anne’s At-Home Pretzel Baking Kit

Auntie Anne’s Pretzels
was not particularly “easy” as described on the package, but it WAS fun!  Adult supervision is required, but kids can be involved in most, if not all, of the steps.  Kids can make the pretzel shape (clearly described in the instruction sheet) or they can make their own shapes.  Instructions are also given on the Auntie Anne’s Recipes web site for Monkey Bread, Pretzel Dogs, Deep Dish Pizza Dough and more.

The kit provides all the ingredients you need except water.  The dough mix requires yeast, so it is a good opportunity to teach your kids about yeast and why it makes dough rise.  The dough mixed up and rose wonderfully, and smelled really good!

The pretzel shapes were a bit tricky, but I managed to make some nice ones after a few tries.  I thought I had lost my beautiful pretzel shapes (I had never made pretzels before, and was quite proud of my twists) when I dipped them in the baking soda solution.  But after I put them back on the cookie sheet, they rose again and went back into their original shape.

Twist of Faith: The Story of Anne Beiler, Founder of Auntie Anne’s Pretzels (Kindle Edition)

The pretzels smelled and tasted DELICIOUS with the cinnamon sugar (I didn’t try the salt that was included) on the same day they were baked.  I froze a few of them, so that I wouldn’t eat them all at once, and they tasted pretty good out of the microwave.

I will definitely use this kit again when I am in the mood for fresh, soft-baked pretzels, but only when there are several people around who will help me eat them!
